NICARAGUA: Caudillos face challenge to political leadership

As President Enrique Bolaños battles to keep his position, internal leadership contests are shaping up within the two main opposition parties, the Frente Sandinista de la Liberación Nacional and the Partido Liberal Constitucionalisita. The outcome will not only have a decisive bearing on the presidential elections in 2006 but could determine the future of Nicaragua's traditional political system of caudillismo.
